Summertime, and the living's pretty easy.

Dear Public Diary,

It's early Saturday morning. I wasn't planning to be awake, but the sunlight pouring in through the windows nudged me to get up a bit earlier than I had hoped (i.e. 7:30 am as opposed to a lazier 10 am). I'm laying in bed looking around my new studio apartment thankful for this quiet, clean 250 sq foot corner of Brooklyn. Most thankful that my A/C is still pumping cold air in this 80-90 degree weather.

The Pledge Campaign was revealed on my birthday (7/14) with a huge response: 20% raised in the first 24 hours. It's such an incredible feeling to know that people are behind my music and my vision. My ideal situation would be to exceed my goal in order to raise money for The SAMFund, an organization near and dear to my heart. One step at a time. We have until September 14th to rock this, and rock we shall.

As we are nearing breakfast time and my stomach is starting to growl, I would like to share an insightful lyric I wrote back in high school, circa age 16:

I'd really like some Chinese food / But you, you're blocking the doorway / I may try to break through / But you'd just stand in my way.

Get outta the way. A girl's gotta eat.

And one last thing to share - as we're gearing up for a fun-filled night of original music and Stevie Wonder tunes on July 24th, I leave you with this:

Watch Me .
xoxo

S

Who's your voice?

Today I had a thought completely unrelated to music. It came about when I was strategizing ways to generate more of a buzz for my music, but I simply got distracted and hopped on an entirely different train. This thought, though not completely original, had to be shared with an audience and discussed.

If someone were to narrate your life (in real time), who would it be?

Mine, strangely enough, is Daniel Stern's voice, the narrator of Kevin Arnold's life (Fred Savage) in The Wonder Years. (I tried to insert a fun video clip here but it looks like copyright matters have prevented YouTube from sharing the love).
Why is it that when I have inner monologue, it's never narrated by my own voice?
In fact, why isn't it even a woman's voice? Ha!

So now you tell me who would narrate your life and, if you so please, why...and I promise someday, somehow, I'll relate this back to music.

xoxo,
Shanna

My very first blog!

Dear fans, friends, family and fellow music-lovers,
I have never really felt the need to blog. I have an established online presence, enjoy reading what other people have to say about music, books, film, fashion and pop-culture at large, but have feared the repercussions of exposing my perspective on well, anything to the ENTIRE world.

Time to change that.

At the very least, I would like to use this blog as a way to document the experience of embarking upon a new project (my upcoming EP) and would like to share the experience with you. I welcome ideas, comments, criticism and of course, love.

We begin our journey tonight at a meeting with producer Jeff Berner of GaluminumFoil studios in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, who I recorded with this past Spring for my friends' The Ramblers album, "Getting There." Tonight we'll work through basic pre-production ideas, discuss our timeline, budget and how to make this EP a success.

I have a few ideas up my sleeve. I have a fire in my belly. I have a desire to create, inspire and be inspired.

Your mission is to join me on this journey...yes you, the one (and perhaps only person) reading this entry.
Let's rock and roll.

xoxo,
s
